We have started a unit on speedball. This game uses many skills, such as dribbling with the feet, passing, catching, throwing, and shooting. Here is some background information about the game-
History of Speedball Speedball was created by Elmer Mitchell at the University of Michigan in 1921 for use in their intramural sports program. The object of Speedball is for the team in possession of the ball to advance the ball down field toward their goal line and score. The opponents try to intercept and obtain possession of the ball in order to move toward their goal line and score. A wide variety of skills are employed in Speedball including; kicking and dribbling the ball with the feet as in soccer; catching and throwing the ball as in basketball and passing the ball as in football. In general, the soccer rules apply when the ball is on the ground; basketball and football rules apply when playing the ball in the air.

We have been playing badminton this week. Students have been practicing serving the birdie correctly, and will have a skills test (on the serve) later in the unit. I've seen lots of great games being played!!
7th and 8th grade students have been fitness testing over the past couple of days. This is a state mandated test that students will take each 9 week period that they are enrolled in a PE class. 6th grade students got connections schedules today- yay!! We discussed rules, procedures, and expectations today. Please review the following syllabus and return the last page IF there is a medical concern/injury that would limit your participation in class.
